This collection is divided into two series: I. Department History Files, 1937-88 and II. Chair Correspondence, 1985-89. Series I contains class lists, grade rolls, lists of graduates, correspondence, commencement programs, a draft of the department history, and other related materials. Series II contains correspondence written by R.D. Horrocks when he was the chair of the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture.

Plans for the David O. McKay building began in 1952 after an evaluation by the Brigham Young University College of Education concluded that the existing building for the College of Education were no longer meeting the growing needs of the program.
